Top Gifts This Holiday Season

November 22nd, 2007· Filed Under: Holidays

I spent some time in the toy section of Walmart with my children last night. I am not sure who had the most fun, my girls or me. Some were so adorable that I think I could almost start playing with dolls again.

Only one of the toys that I found enchanting made the top ten most searched this year: Barbie.

According to The Lycos 50, the most searched toy on the web this holiday season is the gift that can keep costing you - Poker and poker-related items top the list.

Their top ten include:
Poker
Naruto
Pokemon
Harry Potter
Webkinz
iPod
Barbie
Bratz
Neopets
Hannah Montana

Being the mother of three girls, who have Hannah Montana posters covering the walls, I would be shocked if toys related to her didn’t make the list.

How about you? Are there any new toys that make you wish you were a little girl again?

Thanksgiving Advice - Getting Along with Your Relatives

November 12th, 2007· Filed Under: Holidays

Getting Along With The Relatives on Thanksgiving
By Jeffrey Meier

Maybe one of the toughest things that you will have to deal with on Thanksgiving isn’t all the cooking or even the cleaning. If you take any kind of poll or survey and you will find out it’s the relatives. No matter how hard you try, it seems certain relatives just get under your skin and bug you more than other ones do. Don’t fret we have some tips to help you deal with the problem during Thanksgiving and all year long.

Dealing with relatives can be tough, but not hopeless that’s for sure. Let’s look at some of the key tips to keep your Thanksgiving holiday stress free. Most families have a couple of relatives that you just consider weird or aren’t really fond of. These are the ones that usually cause the most troubles at holiday gatherings and Thanksgiving is no exception.

Keep certain relatives as isolated from other relatives you know they really don’t get along with. This will keep the friction down and hopefully keeps Thanksgiving running as smoothly as possible.

Have plenty of food out at different places throughout your home. This will keep most relatives busy and fewer hassles will surely come from it. Another great tip is having someone watch the relatives who tend to cause trouble for you. This way you can intervene at the first sign of any trouble at all and keep the Thanksgiving party moving without any interruptions at all.

Hobbies and games are another idea to keep those trouble making relatives from getting anything started. Find out what they like to do and have something lined up for them. The key is to keep them as busy as possible so they will not try and cause and friction at all. Most relatives will jump at the chance to do something they love any way’s. Hobbies can sometimes get them on your good side and they will be less likely to cause trouble.

Usually before or during Thanksgiving dinner a toast is given. Let the relative who usually is a thorn in your side give it. By doing this they will feel like more of a part of Thanksgiving and maybe less likely to even think about causing any trouble after dinner. For the most part relatives try not to cause trouble, but you will always have the few who want to. I think that most of the time it is harmless because they need some extra attention. By paying more attention to them they are less likely to want to step out and cause trouble.

I think that most of the time you only see the relatives that cause trouble at parties once a year. Planning ahead is the key and keeping them busy is something that usually will lessen the problem. The more people you can incorporate into helping you keep everything running smoothly the better shot you have of not running into any trouble at all. Sometimes relatives can be a handful, but if you have a plan in place than your Thanksgiving holiday can run smoother than it has ever before.
